Prevention

Are you concerned about cavities or are you afflicted with cavities despite sticking to a rigorous dental hygiene routine?

Dental caries (tooth decay) is an infectious disease affecting both adults and children throughout their entire lives. We now know that flossing and brushing alone may not be enough for the prevention of tooth decay for many individuals.

In terms of our teeth, there is a constant demineralization and re-mineralization process going on all the time. It is like a see-saw balancing act between the two. If anything happens that will tip the balance towards demineralization, we will see cavities. If on the other hand, the balance is tipped favouring re-mineralization, not only is the disease process stopped, but also there is a chance that the initial damaged areas can heal. This however will occur only if the disease process is caught early.

There are many options available in dentistry that will tip the balance towards re-mineralization (ie Flouride, Xylitol, CPP-ACP etc.).
